Madrid Airport
to the City Center

Updated October 2026 · By Maison Privé Experiences, private experiences in Madrid since 2019

Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) is only about 12 km from the city center, and getting into town is easy. Here are your options, from the cheapest to the most comfortable.

Cab (taxi): fixed flat fare

Official Madrid cabs are white with a red diagonal stripe. Trips between the airport and anywhere inside the M-30 ring road — which covers the whole tourist center — have a fixed flat fare of €33 (Tariff 4), with luggage included. Always use the official taxi ranks outside arrivals and ignore anyone offering rides inside the terminal.

Metro Line 8

Line 8 connects the airport stations (T1-T2-T3 and T4) with Nuevos Ministerios. A single trip costs around €4.50–5, which includes a €3 airport supplement. It is fast and cheap, but you will usually need to change lines with your luggage.

Airport Express bus (24 hours)

The yellow Airport Express bus runs 24 hours a day between the airport, Cibeles and Atocha station, for about €5. It is the only public transport option late at night, when the Metro is closed.

Commuter train (Terminal 4 only)

The Cercanías commuter train only serves Terminal 4. If you land at T1, T2 or T3, use the Metro, the bus or a cab.

Private chauffeur transfer

A pre-booked private transfer is the most comfortable option for families, groups with lots of luggage or late arrivals: your driver waits at arrivals and takes you straight to your hotel. Compare quotes with the official cab fare.
